I respect and dislike this comment, “Nature is a blindfolded gambler playing with decks of shuffled genes…”
I just returned from a halcyon leaf-peep and family haj to my Green Mountains in Vermont. In the presence of autumnal splendor, I thought about Nature and nurture, as I often do.
I saw seven yellow diamond-shaped warning signs on my meandering drive through three New England states:
- Moose
- Turtles
- Tractors
- School buses
- Deer
- Bears
- Cattle.
Some of these yellow diamond signs are man-made warnings, like school buses and tractors. The balance of my observed Warnings are natural beings that may happen to cross the road, and generate options to “Why did the Chicken cross the road?” riddles.
In full and open disclosure, I didn’t have any close encounters with nature, though manmade objects were a different story. I found that Subaru SUVs were often high velocity roadsters on my drive. That isn’t a stereotype or perjorative comment – rather an observation with a limited sample size. Yet I digress…

Warning Signs can be overt or unfortunately covert – as in the case of “silent” coronary artery diseases (CAD) – trust my experiences, please.

Warning signs can be riddles, fer sure, whether nature or nurture is/are the culprit(s) that challenge our healthspan, strong span, and lifespan.
Spoiler alert: I now find myself in this diseased warning stage for CAD. I intend to share my experiential journey in a trilogic fitness manual title YOUR TICKER TAPE. Stay tuned…
How about this coronary health riddle?
Science Daily reputably shared,
“Soon after cholesterol and fat start depositing on the lining of the blood vessels that supply your heart, the smooth muscle cells that give the blood vessels strength and flexibility start to get bigger and multiply.
While scientists studying the phenomenon suspect these vascular smooth muscle cells are trying to help, this atypical behavior for these strong cells instead contributes to coronary artery disease, the most common type of heart disease in the United States.” “
Oy! You’ll get more cardio-vascular and cardio-respiratory riddles from me in the days to come…
Under Pressure?!
Here is one warning sign that EVERYONE should be aware of and regularly monitor – elevated blood pressure – also called hypertension.

Thanks to the good folks @ naturalhealth365 for this cautionary and preventative reminder,
“Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to life-threatening conditions, including atherosclerosis, stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, heart failure, and a heart attack…hypertension is now defined as a blood pressure reading of 130/80 mm Hg or higher… as blood pressure approaches 130/80 mm Hg, damage to arteries and organs may already be underway.
- Research shows that the risk of heart disease doubles with every 20/10 mm Hg increase in blood pressure above 115/75 mm Hg.”
Note: a simple cuff-check for your blood pressure should actually be a two-arm cuff check.
Why? If there is a difference of ~ 10 mm Hg on one side, that may be indicative of peripheral arterial disease or PAD on one side of a body.
In closing for now, stay well past forty and take care on your
